Barton
is a picturesque Manor hamlet in the parish of Bidford-on-Avon,
a blink and you’ve missed it kind of place. It is an ancient
settlement first recorded in the 13th century.
The Heart of England footpath passes through
the village, and you could be forgiven for thinking you were
on the continent, as most weekends the ‘Tour de France’
speeds through in one form or another.
Whilst many villages bemoan the fact that they are losing their
hearts, as post offices and shops close, and second home owners
take over, Barton makes the very best of its:
– Post Box!
- small market garden shop ( summer times only )
- pumping station, pretty useful in saving us from the ravages
of the Avon in full flood,
- the pub
- and last but not least, the wonderful mix of residents, who
make it a fun place to live - so
welcome to Barton!
More
information on the local area can be obtained at the Bidford
On Avon Council web site.
See how it used to look, then come on in and see what we’re
up to now in 21st century Warwickshire.
Old
and new - a seemingly endless juxtaposition of life and death.

The lane down to the river
has changed slightly over the years, but the two buildings are
still recognisable.

A view apparently from the fifties.
